2021

A collection of porcelain works where I explored the use of slip and movement more in my work. Using shells and thickened porcelain slip to create dramatic textures on the surface of finely thrown porcelain forms. Hoping to invoke the character of moving water, I used a faux celadon glaze that is fluid enough to pool around the texture, further accentuating the idea of movement.

INFORM, NATIONAL MUSEUM OF IRELAND, DUBLIN

2021

A collaboration between the National Musuem of Ireland and the students of both the DCCI jewellery and ceramics school. Taking inspiration from archived handcrafted objects, the students were asked to respond in a contemporary way to their chosen piece. For this exhibition, I chose a 17th century wine bottle that had become mottled and developed a patina over time. Through using porcelain to create a contemporary bottle form, I set about researching glazes that would relay a similar to feel to the patina of the ancient bottle.

WALL TILES

A research project, using thick slabs of crank clay and a range of glazes to create ceramic 'paintings'. This collection included many sizes of wall tiles, supporting a large centre piece.

WATER JARS

Inspired by a Ladi Kwali piece, this collection was made for the 2019 Summer Exhibition, Grennan Mill.
Made in sections, assemled and thrown, the large pots were layered in slips and washes before a reduction firing. Each piece sits in a thrown ceramic ring bound in natural died wool.
